Babesta: How much input does Zooey have in each OOTD? Mai: As Zooey gets older, I’m letting her have more of a say in what she wears. However, because there are times that we have to shoot certain outfits, I give her the option to choose between those 3 outfits before we go out for the day. This way, she doesn’t mind taking photos and I pack the other outfit options in case her outfit gets ‘dirty’ and she needs to change. Babesta: Do you and Zooey have an absolute favorite brand or item of clothing? Place to take pictures? Mai: There are so many good brands out there right now so we don’t have just one favorite. A lot of these kids’ brands are getting really creative and coming up with such amazing prints and designs. Our favorite place to take photos is Disneyland. Babesta: As Zooey’s approaching 50k Instagram followers, can you share what you think makes an Instagram-worthy picture? Mai: It actually takes a lot for me to decide which photo to post. I think the most important thing is to stay on brand so the styling is very important. Next would be the mood. Will this photo create a reaction by our followers? How can I relate this photo to current news or the weather while making it unique? Lastly, the quality of the photo has to be right. Babesta: As a mom of 2 (baby Amelie recently made Zooey a big sister), can you share what’s in your bag when traveling? Mai: I’m one of those moms that carries too many things! I currently carry 2 bags, one diaper bag that has Amelie’s extra clothes, diapers, and essentials and one tote bag with my wallet, Zooey’s sunnies, snacks and an extra cell phone mobile charger. This tote bag also has my schedule book and 3 pens. When traveling I take extra crayons & coloring books; extra clothes & diapers for the baby; and even extra clothes for myself, because you never know when the baby will spit up on you. Babesta: What will be in Zooey’s backpack for entering elementary school? Mai: Zooey likes to carry her doodle board in her backpack. It keeps her occupied on long drives. However, for school she will probably be packing school supplies like a notebook and pencils. She would need her water bottle and lunch box too of course. I will also pack some sunblock and a hat.

ZOOEY DOES TOKYO

Mai shares here fave go-to spots when she & Zooey are in Tokyo: EAT: Frames in Nakameguro (for the Junk potatoes that have sweet chili & sour cream on top), and Bills , a pancake house in Hara juku Crossing. The Denny’s in Tokyo is actually pretty awesome too!. SHOP: For adults, Shibuya or Hara juku are my favorites. For kids, there are amazing shops in Daikanyama called BONTON and Kodomo Beams. PLAY: Anpanman Museum . Anpanman is a super hero made of bread and Zooey loved watching his shows when she was younger. There is also Sanrio Puroland , a place where all of your Hello Kitty dreams come true.
