BannermanCastle is an abandonedmilitary surplus warehouse, once owned by arms dealer Francis BannermanVI. It famously housedhis cannons and artillery, boasting the company name ‘Bannerman’s IslandArsenal’ for all to read across the river (and on theMetroNorth line). Although the island formerly was not accessible, thanks to the Bannerman IslandTrust, there are tours fromBeacon andNewburgh (kayak&passenger boat), as well asCold Spring orCornwall on the Hudson (kayak only).
