Babesta Beat S/S18

What’s the Tiny Whales lifestyle? Tiny Whales is effortlessly cool. Whether lounging on the couch watching a movie, ripping down the slides at the park, or out on an adventure, we make the clothes kids want to live in. Not only because they’re super cozy, but because the kid is proud to wear it! We are not in a clique, we are a brand for the everyday kid from all walks of life. What sort of challenges have you had in building the brand? ALL of the challenges! But Shaun and I have had the unique challenge of running a business not only as business partners but also as husband and wife and mother and father . We are all those things to each other all the time so over the years we’ve had to learn a lot about balance in our roles and when we play into one more then another. It’s a ton of trial and error and it’s never quite perfect—I mean let’s be serious when is mom not mom? But we’ve made it work and we will continue to do so because we both love all the roles we play. What is your favorite thing about your job? That’s a long list but top five would be: seeing designs come to life; being our own boss; working from home with family; supporting our local economy; and getting to see our little shoppers rocking Tiny Whales out and

about and on social media. It really doesn’t get much better then standing in the check out at our local market behind a kid wearing our “Local” trucker hat. If you weren’t doing this what would you be doing? We love Tiny Whales so it’s hard to imagine doing anything else but if we had to make a change it would need to be a major upgrade, one that looks like a hammock and a laptop on a beach in Hawaii (hahaha)!! What makes a great t-shirt? The fit, the fabric and knowing it was made ethically. Clever well-designed graphics help too! Weekends usually consist of a walk to the beach—we’re super lucky to live less than a mile from the coast of Huntington Beach. We hit the local coffee shops and cafes and of course the parks and playgrounds. Surf and skate culture rules Southern California and it’s been a part of both our lives since childhood and always will be. We’ve shared our love for it with our girls and their interest is piquing now that they are a bit older and more confident. More weekends at the skate park and beach with our family would make us very happy. What are your weekends like? Do you live your tee culture (skateboard, surfing etc.)!
