CONVERTIBLE CAR SEATS: A convertible seat can go the distance from newborn to about 65 pounds, depending on the seat. It’s convertible because it starts out rear facing and then (after 2 years and with some seats up to 4 years) can be turned around to be forward facing. These seats are all about energy management like the infant seat but can hold more weight. The downside of these seats is that they’re heavy but when coupled with something like the Travelmate (an L bracket on wheels that can be pushed like a stroller) it’s a bit easier to get around, but not as convenient as with the infant seat. We recommend using the convertible seat until your child outgrows the height or weight restriction of the seat, as there is nothing safer than a 5 point harness and a chair designed to minimize impact of an accident on your child.
